In the future, municipal waste from Eastern and Central Finland and Kainuu will be incinerated for energy, district heat and electricity at Riikinvoima’s Ekovoimalaitos in Leppävirta. Riikinvoima’s Ekovoimalaitos is being built utilising modern, efficient and environmentally friendly technology. This ecological waste-to-energy plant utilises waste that is unfit for recycling. The plant is estimated to use 145,000 tonnes of waste per year, which will generate 180 GWh in district heat and 90 GWh in electricity.
